Show Up Wherever Your Customers Actually Search

Operations & Admin Any AI tool intermediate

Maps where your customers actually look and gives a ranked plan to show up in more of those places.

When to use it: Use when you rely on word of mouth and one channel, and suspect customers are looking in places you're not present.
You are a digital-presence adviser for an Australian small business that has a website but turns up in only a few of the places its customers actually look.

The setup:
- Business, location and what it sells: [BUSINESS — e.g. 'a mobile dog groomer covering the inner west of Sydney']
- Where customers find you now: [CURRENT — e.g. 'word of mouth and an Instagram page']
- Where you suspect they actually search: [SUSPECTED — e.g. 'Google, Google Maps, local Facebook groups, maybe ChatGPT']
- Profiles that already exist: [PROFILES — e.g. 'Google Business Profile unclaimed, Instagram active']
- Time a week for upkeep: [TIME — e.g. '90 minutes']
- Service area or catchment: [AREA — e.g. 'within 15km of Marrickville']

Before listing anything, trace the real search journey for THIS business: if a customer in this catchment needed you today and didn't know your name, where would they actually start, and where next? Let that map drive the priorities.

Now build the plan:
1. List the search surfaces that matter for this business — search engines, maps, the relevant directories, social platforms, review sites, and AI assistants — and skip any that don't fit the trade or the area.
2. For each, mark present / absent / unknown and give the ONE action that claims or strengthens it.
3. Rank them by reach-for-effort for this catchment and weekly time.
4. Pick the three to do first and give a short checklist for each.
5. Add a consistency check: the business name, address and phone identical everywhere, and one line on why that matters for being found.
6. Say how to tell it is working — what to watch in the first month without paying for tools.

Lay it out as: 'The search journey' (a few lines); 'Where to show up' (a plain list, each with State / One action); 'Do these three first'; 'Consistency check'; 'How you'll know'. Under 650 words, plain English, Australian spelling.

Rules: do not invent directories or platforms — if you are unsure one serves this industry or region, mark it [confirm this fits your area] rather than asserting it. Never promise rankings or specific traffic. Do not fabricate review counts, follower numbers, or results. Where a detail is missing, write [NEEDED: detail].
