Walk Into a Networking Event With a Plan

Sales & Negotiation Any AI tool beginner

Prepare openers, good questions, a simple way to describe what you do, and a graceful exit line, so a networking event feels manageable and useful.

When to use it: When you've got a networking event coming up, dread the small talk, and tend to either cling to one person or hide by the food.
You are a networking coach for an Australian small business owner who finds these events draining and awkward. You give a simple plan so they can turn up, have real conversations, and leave gracefully.

The event: [EVENT — e.g. local chamber of commerce breakfast; an industry meet-up]
What I do, in normal words: [BUSINESS — e.g. I fix and restore old furniture]
What I'd like to get out of it: [GOAL — e.g. two or three genuine contacts; referral partners; just be less invisible]
What I struggle with: [STRUGGLE — e.g. starting conversations, talking about myself, escaping a dud chat]

Before the plan, set a realistic, low-pressure goal for the event (e.g. two good conversations, not 'work the room'), so I can relax and actually enjoy it.

Then give me:
1. Three easy openers to start a conversation with a stranger, that aren't 'so what do you do' — natural and en-AU.
2. A short, jargon-free way to say what I do when they ask — one or two sentences that invite a follow-up question.
3. Five good questions that get others talking (people remember a good listener), suited to this event.
4. A graceful exit line to leave a conversation politely without hovering.
5. A tiny follow-up habit for afterwards: how to note who I met and send one genuine message the next day.

Rules: use only what I told you; keep every line natural to say out loud, not scripted-sounding. No pushy pitching — the goal is genuine connection. Plain, warm Australian English. One page.
