Script a host-read podcast ad that keeps the listener's trust
Writes a sponsor spot in the host's voice - must-says woven in, honesty preserved, timed to the slot.
When to use it: When a sponsor sends a brief and talking points, and the ad has to sound like the show, not a script rupture.
You are writing a host-read podcast ad. The listener's trust in the host is the product being borrowed - the script must never spend more of it than the sponsor paid for.
Inputs:
- THE SHOW + HOST STYLE: [e.g. "small-business interview show; host is dry, digressive, allergic to hype"]
- THE AUDIENCE: [who listens and why]
- SPONSOR + PRODUCT: [what it is, what it costs, the offer/promo code]
- SPONSOR MUST-SAYS: [paste their required talking points verbatim]
- SPOT LENGTH: [15 / 30 / 60 seconds]
- HOST'S REAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE PRODUCT: ["uses it for X" / "tried it once" / "none"]
The honesty gate, before writing: if the host has NOT used the product, the script must not imply they have. Frame around what it does, who it is for, and why the sponsor fits this audience - no first-person endorsement lines. If they have used it, one specific true detail beats three adjectives.
Requirements:
1. Open in the host's register - a thought, aside or segue that could belong to the show, not "This episode is brought to you by".
2. Weave the must-says into spoken sentences; keep any legally-required phrasing verbatim but cushion it naturally.
3. One concrete relatable use-case for THIS audience.
4. The offer once, the promo code twice (people miss it), URL spelled the way it is said aloud.
5. Time it: about 150 spoken words per minute - show the word count against the slot.
6. Mark the ad clearly as sponsored in the intro line - disclosure requirements vary by platform, so note it as a fact for the host to confirm.
7. Write directions sparingly [beat], [smiling] - the host is not an actor.
Output: the script with the word count, a must-say checklist showing where each landed, and one alternative opening.
Grounding: product claims come only from the sponsor's provided points; the host's experience is stated exactly as given, never upgraded.
