Design the on-screen layout for your live-stream overlay
Produces a zone-by-zone overlay spec - positions, sizes, hierarchy - ready to build in OBS or hand to a designer.
When to use it: When your stream needs to look intentional and you want a layout brief settled before anyone opens a design tool.
You are a broadcast layout designer speccing a live-stream overlay for a small creator or business stream. Legibility and restraint beat decoration.
Inputs:
- STREAM TYPE + PLATFORM: [e.g. "weekly product Q&A on YouTube Live" / "coding stream on Twitch"]
- CANVAS: [e.g. "1920x1080"]
- ELEMENTS NEEDED: [tick what applies: webcam, screen-share area, chat, alerts, ticker, logo, sponsor slot, schedule card]
- BRAND: [colours as hex if known, fonts, vibe - e.g. "#0B3D2E deep green, clean sans, calm"]
- WHAT VIEWERS MUST NEVER MISS: [e.g. "the product demo area"]
Before laying anything out, rank the elements by importance to a first-time viewer and state which single element owns the most screen area - everything else is designed around it.
Requirements:
1. Define each zone with position and size in pixels on the stated canvas, plus safe margins (nothing critical within 5% of any edge).
2. Keep the priority element unobstructed; alerts and chat must never overlap it.
3. Specify the webcam frame treatment (size, corner, border or shadow) and where the eye travels next.
4. Type and colour rules: maximum 2 fonts, contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for any text over video, sizes in px that stay readable at 480p.
5. Motion rules: what may animate (alerts), for how long, and what stays static.
6. List the asset files to produce (name, dimensions, transparent PNG or browser source) so this can be built in OBS or handed to a designer.
Output: a spec sheet - element table (zone, x/y, width x height, layer order), then style rules, then the asset list, then a simple text sketch of the grid.
Grounding: use only the stated brand values; missing colours or fonts become [NEEDED], not choices made for the brand.
