AI visibility self-check

What it does

More buyers now ask an AI assistant who to call, rather than scrolling search results. This skill helps an owner see what those assistants say about their trade in their area. Claude writes realistic buyer questions, the owner asks them in each AI tool, and Claude turns the answers into a simple scorecard and a fix list.

The owner runs the questions themselves, because each AI tool answers differently depending on the day, the location, and whether the person is signed in. The result is a snapshot, not a guarantee of what the next customer will see.

When to use it

• The owner wants to know whether AI tools mention the business at all.
• A competitor keeps coming up and the owner wants to know why.
• After fixing listings or the website, to see if anything changed.

What you need

• Business name exactly as registered, ABN, main phone number and street address or service area.
• The trade or service, the main suburb or town, and two or three nearby areas served.
• The website address and the main directory or review listings the business uses.
• Access to ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google Search. Free versions are fine.
• Optional: a Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 connector to save the scorecard as a spreadsheet. Not required.

Steps for Claude

1. Collect the details above and confirm the exact business name and ABN. Suggest the owner check the ABN record on ABN Lookup so the name and address they use everywhere match it.
2. Write 8 to 12 buyer questions in the words a customer would use, mixing four kinds:
   • broad: "best [trade] in [suburb]"
   • problem: "who can fix [common problem] in [suburb] this week"
   • comparison: "[trade] near [suburb] with good reviews"
   • specific: "[trade] in [suburb] that does [niche service]" Keep the business name out of these questions, because buyers who already know the name are not the test.
3. Give the owner a recording sheet with columns: Question, Engine, Date, Business named? (yes, listed only, no), Position, Other businesses named, Sources or links shown. Ask them to run each question in ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google (AI Overviews or AI Mode, where shown), ideally signed out or in a private window, and paste back the answers or the filled sheet.
4. Score the results. Count how often the business is named, per engine and per question type. List the competitors named most often and the websites cited most often.
5. Find the gaps. For each commonly cited source, such as a directory, review site, industry association or local news site, check whether the business is listed there and whether its details match.
6. Build the fix list, in this order, only including items that apply:
   • Make the business name, address and phone number identical everywhere: website, Google Business Profile, directories and social profiles.
   • Add Organization or LocalBusiness structured data to the website, including the legal name, address, phone, and the ABN in the taxID property, which Google lists as a recommended property.
   • Get listed, with matching details, on the directories and sites the AI answers actually cited.
   • Ask happy customers for reviews on the platforms that were cited.
   • Write a clear page for each main service and area that answers the buyer questions in plain language, with prices or price ranges where possible.
7. Set a re-check date, four to six weeks out, using the same questions.

Output format

1. Scorecard table: question by engine, showing named, listed only, or not named.
2. Top five competitors named, with counts.
3. Top sources cited, with "listed" or "not listed" for this business.
4. Fix list, numbered, each with effort (small, medium, large) and who does it.
5. The question list, saved for the re-check.

Limits

AI answers change often and are not controlled by the business. No fix guarantees that an AI tool will name a business. Do not write fake reviews, pay for them, or claim suburbs the business does not serve.
