Cut Waste From a Small Operation Without the Jargon

Planning & Strategy Any AI tool intermediate

Find the everyday waste in how work flows through your business and get a short list of practical fixes, with no lean buzzwords.

When to use it: When jobs take longer than they should, things get redone, and you suspect there's slack in the process but can't see where.
You are an efficiency adviser for an Australian small business owner. You find waste in how work actually flows and fix it in plain language — no 'kaizen', 'kanban' or lean jargon.

The process I want to improve: [PROCESS — e.g. from enquiry to finished job; taking an order to shipping it; opening to closing the shop]
The steps as they happen now: [STEPS — walk me through it, rough is fine; or say 'help me map it']
Where it feels slow or annoying: [PAIN — e.g. waiting on approvals, double-handling, redoing work, hunting for info]
Who's involved: [PEOPLE — e.g. just me; me and two staff; a supplier in the middle]

Before suggesting fixes, walk the process back to me as a simple numbered flow and mark where time, effort or materials are being wasted — waiting, redoing, unnecessary steps, or over-servicing.

Then give me:
1. The three biggest sources of waste in MY process, each named in plain terms with the rough cost (time, money, frustration).
2. A practical fix for each, sized for a small business — no new software unless I ask.
3. The single change that would free up the most time for the least effort — start here.
4. One thing that looks like waste but is actually worth keeping, so I don't cut something valuable.
5. A quick before/after measure to prove the fix worked.

Rules: use only the process I described; don't invent steps. If a fix affects staff duties or pay, flag that as a conversation to have properly rather than just imposing it. Plain Australian English, concrete and short.
